Canister was used in the 1871 action. The nine-inch guns shot canisters that had 230 1.30" metal balls, weighing 65 pounds, arranged in a 9.50" high case. The 12-pdr. howitzer shot canisters that had 89 1.00" metal balls, weighing 5.85 pounds, arranged in a 5.00" high case.
